If Murder Was Legal Would You Still Be Alive?

if murder was legal

What a title huh? I knew that would get your attention. Don’t worry it wasn’t a sensationalist headline for the sake of it but it’s a question I have asked a fair few people over the years and the majority genuinely have to stop and think about their answer.

So what am I trying to get at here?

Basically, if it was totally legal to commit murder, think of how many annoying people would cease to exist. Those dodgy members of society would be forever looking over their shoulder (if they aren’t anyway) and worrying who would be waiting in the shadows.

Think of every single person you have upset in your life. Were your actions justified or were you being a total ass?

Oops.

Are you a bad person?

By now you should have an inkling of whether you would still be kicking and screaming in this bizarre alternate reality. It’s a tough one to call I admit; especially if you were a teenage psychopath and enjoyed playing the part of the school bully.

Little Johnny was weak yes, but I bet he was secretly plotting his revenge using his least favourite action man figure as a makeshift voodoo doll, dreaming of the day when you would get your comeuppance and he could Jackie Chan your ass.

Don’t think you are getting off lightly if you’re a female.

We’ve all seen Mean Girls. We know what you lot are capable of. Cady so would have put poison in Regina’s diet bar.

I seem to have gone off on a really embarrassing tangent there.

It’s an awesome film, deal with it.

Luckily most people grow out of such tomfoolery as they get older but the point is, if you were a nasty piece of work as a youngster, would you have even made it this far?

I doubt it.

When is the last time you did something genuinely nice for someone?

In this crazy world of revenge and idle police officers, the mere act of a nice gesture carries far more meaning and relevance. Are you the sort of person who, without prompting, is capable of doing genuinely nice things for friends and strangers alike?

I’m not talking about helping old ladies across the road here; I mean proper random acts of kindness.

Offering to take care of someone when they are sick, Lending someone money when they are in financial difficulty, going out of your way to do something unexpected without asking for anything in return.

If you can’t remember the last time you did such a thing, then maybe it’s time to step up and be the sort of person that your friends and family can rely on.

Christmas is coming up so tell Santa he’s got the night off and that you’ll be handing out all the gifts this year.

Do as you would be done by

Fantastic, you’ve made it this far without being killed to death by a vengeful former friend, so what happens next?

We should all be interacting with the world with the intention to leave people better than when we found them. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture by any means. Something small and sincere goes a long way and it will let them know how much of an awesome person you really are.

Yes we all have problems but that’s exactly it. We all want to feel like we are being understood and that we don’t have to go through life on our own, fighting our battles like some demented William Wallace.

Offer a helping hand when it is needed and when the time inevitably comes when you might require a little help, these people will gladly reciprocate.

So don’t be an ass and start being a good person if you’re not already. Sleeping with one eye open isn’t fun.

Your actions have consequences; remember this and you’ll go far.
