Shut up – Your opinion is worthless

I haven’t met anyone in ages but I want to give you some dating advice.

I’ve only just met you but I know exactly the kind of person you are.

My novel is amazing but for some reason the publishers aren’t interested.

I’ve never been there but that country is way too dangerous to visit.

My life is tedious and boring but here is why your dreams will fail.

I have zero nutritional knowledge but you really shouldn’t be eating that.

Americans are stupid and the Chinese are smart but I don’t know any of them personally.

Every time I get into a relationship I get dumped, what’s wrong with these people?

I don’t know why you are depressed but pull yourself together.

I’ve got a virus on my computer so I must have been hacked.

The God that I believe in is the only one that matters.

I tried a few times to play an instrument but I don’t have the talent for it.

If making money was that easy then everyone would be doing it.

I go to church therefore I have the right to look down on you and judge the way you live your life.

You can’t do that at your age, you should be married with kids by now.

I work at a bank so here is what you should be doing with your money.

None of these diets ever work for me, they are all scams.

I really want to become fluent in Spanish but I have no intention of ever living abroad.

I’ve only just met you but sorry you’re not my type.

I’m older than you so I know what I’m talking about.

I don’t have any kids myself but you should listen to my opinions about how to raise yours.

I don’t understand why anyone would go and see that movie, it just looks so boring.

Why are you still in that relationship? If it was me I would have left a long time ago.

I really hate my job and would love to leave but I think you should stay at yours because finding work is hard these days.

I’m a vegetarian and I can’t believe you would condone the butchering of these animals, but I do eat fish occasionally.

I spent 6 months travelling through Australia so let me tell you about the world.

Why don’t you get a real job?

Are any of these familiar? Feel free to add more in the comment section below.

  1. Since you aren’t married why don’t you join the convent – great security in your old age! I swear I heard that one – from a nun! 🙂

  2. That was an awesome read, Jamie. Made me laugh — and saw myself in a few of them. We humans are funny creatures!

Here’s my addition: “I read a book on it once, so let me tell you how you should be doing it.”

    • Hey, thanks for stopping by. I agree with that one, people are instant experts these days just because they read a ‘for dummies’ book or do a few hours internet research. You can always respond to that by saying ‘well I read TWO books, so shut up’. 🙂

  3. Why is Jamie such aopular name over there? says:

Oh right, I have a daughter who sounds just like you but alas she is just a stupid American with a 4.0 grade average in college and her roomate from Britain? Ah, well not so good! (but dont tell Eddie Izzard that freak likes to believe every American is in love with him and puts you down every chance he gets) no we are not all stupid I am sure you realize this. Anyhow same thing with her, it is tough finding the right person when we have so much garbage in our heads. Too many expectations. Why is everyone so overly competitve? You will never find anyone if you keep on that road!

  4. Love it! Yes people can be so invested to other people more than themselves, myself included. But the moment I stopped doing that (or reduced -_-) I realized that I have a lot to improve. It’s like criticizing the neighbor’s house without realizing our own house is a mess.
